Instantiation of a Classification System Framework that Facilitates Reuse

Abstract
Frameworks are a key technology to reduce softwaredevelopment costs and shorten the time-to-market.However, framework complexity presents reuse problemsthat limit its success as an application development alternative.Therefore, it has been widely recognized that is necessaryto effectively communicate frameworks and provideappropriate tool support. Although advancements havebeen made in these directions, difficulties still endure.We argue the problem should also be addressed at anotherlevel – the framework model. Moreover, both the frameworkdocumentation and the level of support that tools canprovide are decisively dependent on the considered frameworkmodel. In this paper, we present our proposed frameworkmodel and the respective supporting notation. Wediscuss their application in the design and description of aClassification System Framework. Then we describe howthe framework can be reused based on the proposed descriptiontechnique. This case study illustrates how the proposedmodel and description help to alleviate difficulties offramework reuse.
