A Framework for Design Engineering Education with Workflow-based e-Learning System

Abstract
Education of design engineering has started tochange in response to the advancement of computertechnology. This paper proposes a new designengineering educational framework using an e-learningsystem called ShareFast, a Semantic Web-basedsoftware for document management system withworkflow. The software offers a function to keep tracksof learner’s behavior so that the instructor can analyzeit to improve learning materials and class efficiency. Itcan also record learner’s input and output history datafor the instructor to conduct performance analysisactivities. This educational framework has been usedfor empirical studies with university students. Theresults showed that the framework could help theinstructor to understand the student’s problems duringthe class, and it can shorten the students’ learningduration by means of learning materials improvement.
